Brief Description:
Ferro Manganese is one of the most important ferroalloys, consisting of elements such as iron, sulfur, phosphorus, carbon, and manganese. The manganese content in this ferroalloy typically ranges from 65% to 95%, making it the predominant element. The increased use of carbon during the production of Ferro Manganese results in three main types: low carbon, medium carbon, and high carbon Ferro Manganese. Additionally, Ferro Manganese is categorized into three size ranges:

  • 20-80 mm
  • 10-50 mm
  • 3-25 mm

Ferro Manganese plays a critical role in various metallurgical processes and is essential for the production of high-quality steel

Applications of Ferro Manganese in the Casting Industry:
One of the reasons for using Ferro Manganese is to eliminate impurities such as sulfur and oxygen in steelmaking furnaces. A high concentration of sulfur in the molten metal can make the final product brittle. However, when Ferro Manganese is added to the molten materials, sulfur combines with manganese, resulting in the formation of manganese sulfide, which becomes part of the molten slag. Thus, it is separated and removed from the molten metal.

Overall, Ferro Manganese improves the tensile strength, hardness, hardenability, toughness, and workability of steel due to its modification of the iron-carbon system. It is used as an alloying component to enhance resistance, reduce brittleness, and improve the thermal behavior of various steels.
