Ferro Molybdenum

Brief Description:
Ferro Molybdenum is an alloy primarily composed of molybdenum and iron. This alloy serves as a source of molybdenum in the production of steel and special alloys, and due to its specific properties, it holds significant importance in various industries, especially in the casting industry.

Ferro Molybdenum is typically produced by melting molybdenum ore (such as molybdenite) in electric furnaces. In this process, coke is used as a carbon source, and molybdenum is obtained as an alloying element in the alloy.

Applications of Ferro Molybdenum in the Casting Industry:

Production of Special Steels: Ferro Molybdenum is used as an alloying element in the production of heat-resistant steels and high-mechanical-property alloy steels. These types of steels are commonly utilized in the aerospace and automotive industries.

Increased Corrosion Resistance: The addition of molybdenum to steel can enhance resistance to corrosion and wear. This feature is especially important in harsh environmental conditions and in the chemical and oil and gas industries.

Improvement of Mechanical Properties: Ferro Molybdenum acts as a strengthening agent in alloys, increasing their strength, hardness, and flexibility.

Overall, it increases hardness and strength, enhances resistance to creep, improves fatigue resistance, creates secondary hardness in hot work steels, increases grain size number, and prevents grain growth during heat treatment or service at elevated temperatures.
